One of the things that first hit me watching VeggieTales – Esther, the Girl Who Became Queen was the relative age of Esther. For some reason, I believe that I always thought of Esther being an adult, but that was not necessarily the case. We know that Mary was a teen when she married Joseph, so it’s not that inconceivable that Esther was young.
What makes this even more a possibility was that they were trying to get the most beautiful girls in the kingdom– and I’m sure that they would want the younger girls– and virginity and being not married would have been prized.
Why is this important? Because it would have added to the fact that she had to have faith in the midst of a lot of things changing in her life. We can expect an adult to have the faith that was demonstrated by walking into the king’s court yard, but for her to have it as a younger lady– well that’s saying something.
How many teens do you know today that stand up for the right thing? Is that how you’re training your young vegetables?
